Kameoka Mitsuhide Festival” was held on May 3 again this year.

Kameoka Mitsuhide Festival is held every year on May 3 and is the largest spring festival in Kameoka City. The festival honors Mitsuhide Akechi, a wise general of the Warring States period, and celebrates his achievements. As the first lord of Kameyama Castle in Tanba, Mitsuhide Akechi laid the foundation of Kameoka, and his fame has taken root in Kameoka.

During the Mitsuhide Festival, a heroic procession of warriors, “Mitsuhide Akechi Mitsuhide Samurai Parade,” parades around the castle town. Furthermore, this year, various events were held at the Kamekita Sanga Plaza on the north side of JR Kameoka Station under the name of “Kamemaru Festa,” and Kameoka was colored with the image of Mitsuhide Akechi.

Mitsuhide was the first lord of Tamba Kameyama Castle, which he built after his invasion of Tamba under the order of Nobunaga Oda. However, he later defeated Nobunaga in the Honnoji Incident and became infamous as a “rebel” and “treacherous retainer” for his actions.
